The Water-Saving Garden

Living in the Midwest has its challenges when it comes to outdoor living spaces. Lack of precipitation, sandy soils and fast runoff are but a few of the challenges. Just a few miles from our house are sandy, parched areas where only certain types of plants grow. My own yard is a watering nightmare let alone creating an inviting beautiful outside area to entertain and relax. That's where the book http://images.randomhouse.com/cover/9781607747932?width=125&alt=no_cover_b4b.gif The Water-Saving Garden by Pam Penick comes in. She has done all the homework and research and put it together for your convenience. The book is full of beautiful pictures and practical advice such as capturing water from your condensation line of your air conditioner. The final chapter even has a plant guide complete with pictures, height, sun/shade requirements, and moisture requirements. But picking the plants is only part of the process. This book will walk you through ensuring you have the right irrigation process, controlling runoff and drainage as well as what material to use as a base for your garden. I was given a copy of this book from the people at blogging for books for an honest review. My honest review would be to pick up a copy and get that garden planned now, so that this spring you can be ready to get your space the help it needs.
